What To Avoid This Valentine’s Day
Warning to all Men!! In case you’ve forgotten (well let’s face it you probably have) Valentine’s Day is coming up. You know that day in mid-February where your partner expects you to make a fuss of them and treat them like they are the most special person in the world.
Here at the Rug Seller, we have a learnt a thing or two over the years about Valentine’s Day. So, we have decided to put together a list of 10 biggest mistakes anyone can make on a special day.
1. Don’t Buy Gift Vouchers
This one should go without saying. People like gifts that show you have put some thought into and that you know what they would like. Buying a gift voucher is like saying “Sorry, I couldn’t be bothered listening to what you were saying, so I just got you this”. So unless they ask for a gift voucher, never EVER get them one.
2. Don’t Cry
This is especially for those spending their first Valentine’s Day together. If your partner makes some great public display of affection, don’t cry! It’s likely that they already know you’re a soppy git, so try to hold back the tears. Crying can make other people feel awkward, especially if you are in public as it draws attention.
3. Don’t Get Drunk
We’ve all been there, so desperate to impress someone that we have a few drinks for Dutch courage before the actual date. Then when you’re on the date you end up drinking so fast because you’re nervous. This is not a good idea, as it is likely that you will end up getting drunk and talking nonsense and making a fool out of yourself.
4. Don’t Go To The Same Place
It might seem like a good idea to take your partner somewhere you’ve been before and you know they like. But this is Valentine’ Day, it’s your time to show them that you are spontaneous! So now might be the time to take a look on TripAdvisor and find the best rated local restaurants in your area. Get booking now as they do fill up fast.
5. Don’t Bring A Friend
Valentine’s Day is the one day of the year that should be spent with a loved one. We all know that two’s company and three’s a crowd. So no matter how sorry you feel for your single friend, don’t bring them along to your date night. This is only going to infuriate your partner and leave you in the doghouse for quite some time.
6. Don’t Propose
It may seem like a great idea to get down on one knee on Valentine’s Day, and there are probably some people that would love it. But make sure you’ve thought it through and you’re not just doing it because it’s romantic. Also, if you go to a restaurant on the 14th, it is very likely that someone else will have the same idea as you – making your grand gesture seem less spontaneous.
7. Don’t Make Promises You Can’t Fulfill
Valentine’s Day may be the most romantic day of the year, so it can be very easy to get carried away. So if you’re going to make a promise to your loved one on the big day, make sure it’s one that you can fulfil. Otherwise, you’re just setting yourself up for a fall. It’s better to kill someone with the truth than please them with a lie.
8. Don’t Talk About Your Ex
Talking about your ex to your current partner is normally a no-go, but even more so on Valentine’s Day. By talking about past relationships your date will only get the impression that you’re not over them. On Valentine’s Day your partner wants you to tell them they are the most special person in the world – not second best!
9. Don’t Tell Them Valentine’s Day Isn’t Important
We all know that Valentine’s Day is a made-up day that card shops can cash in on (but don’t tell your partner). By saying that you’re telling them that you don’t consider this day important, is like saying you couldn’t be bothered. Unless you’re a frugal couple, then you need to make the day extra special for your lover.
10. Don’t Dump Them
If you’re thinking about dumping your partner, then don’t do it on Valentine’s Day. That memory will live with them forever. So get your timing right. A couple of days before isn’t good either as they have more than likely already started making plans. This rule can also be applied to other big celebrations such as birthdays.
By avoiding these 10 common mistakes you can help make this Valentine’s Day one to remember for you and your partner.
