Babies might be able to hold their own and give their mums and dads a run for their money, but when it comes to their little bodies they are only delicate. This is why you have to be extra careful to make your home baby proof when you’ve got little ones on the move.

There are some pretty obvious child proofing measures that parents introduce when their babies and toddlers start to move around on their own. Babies are hard to keep up with once they get the taste for independent travel, so things like stair gates, fireguards and cushioned edge guards are something of a given.

However, you also have to think about the time your babies spend playing on the floor. Long before they are able to walk, they will happily spend time messing wherever you care to put them down and you have to make sure that the surface is cushioned and soft to the touch.

The best way to do this is to get hold of thick rugs. If you are worried allergies or itching then choose synthetic washable rugs because these will be kinder to your children’s skin and can be washed.
