Rugs that are made from naturally soft and naturally warm materials are usually the best at transferring that sense of warmth and comfort to the home. It’s easy to see why skins, pelts and hides do such a good job of making the home a warmer place to be.
Skins, pelts and hides do a pretty important job in the natural world. They keep warm-blooded beasts at a cosy enough temperature throughout the year, even during the hardest winters spent wholly out of doors. Any material with the power to do that is going to be an asset in your home.
There are lots of different kinds of skins and pelts out there. Sheepskin is a common rug material, as is cowhide and reindeer, and leather rugs are also pretty widespread. Wool rugs probably qualify in the sense that wool is a natural material, although a lot more production goes into creating wool rugs so they are ready for the home and they don’t make an appearance in hide form.
When the temperatures inside drop, it’s nice to know you can rely on your luxurious hides to bring back some of the warmth and in many cases it takes the pressure off your heating.
