Seventeen years after Angelina Jolie played one of the most famous female video game characters of all time, it’s time for a new heroine to takeover, and the woman to do so is Alicia Vikander.
Just as the rebooted game Lara shows us, the movie focuses on a younger, more vulnerable side to the kickass archaeologist as she strives to find evidence on what happened to her father.
Sure, we’ll all miss the feline power that Angelina Jolie gave Lara, but the idea of seeing Ms Croft on her first expedition and discovering how she came to be the hero we know of today is equally exciting!

Steven Soderbergh has returned to moviemaking after a four-year hiatus and he definitely isn’t slowing down! Less than a year after of his last release, “Logan Lucky,” Soderbergh is returning to the big screen with his newest movie, “Unsane.”
In Unsane, a protagonist played by Claire Foy is dealing with a digital stalker who won’t leave her alone. Her attempts to get law enforcement involved somehow leads to her being confined in an institution, in the tried-and-true “Who’s really insane here?” plot.
It seems like all Soderbergh needed to be drawn out of retirement was a new piece of technology. What incredibly expensive piece of technology is this you ask? An iPhone. Almost unheard of when it comes to a major movie, the entire thing is filmed solely on an iPhone!

Back in 2009, Wes Anderson’s Fantastic Mr. Fox seemed like a stop-motion animation experiment — a quirk-packed one-time creative indulgence for the Royal Tenenbaums writer-director within a kids’ flick genre.
This new stop-motion movie is set in in 2030s Japan, where canine saturation has reached epidemic proportions. After a dog-flu pandemic breaks out, all dogs are exiled to a garbage-dump island. The movie follows 12-year-old Atari Kobayashi, who recklessly sets off to the island in pursuit of his lost canine companion, Spots.
The film is made entirely in the stop-motion format and features some very famous household names such as Brian Cranston, Bill Murray, Edward Norton and Scarlett Johansson to name a few! Take a look at the trailer for this interesting movie by clicking here!
Steven Spielberg is looking to add another sci-fi blockbuster to his resume (because apparently, he doesn’t have enough) with the adaption of Ernest Cline’s “Ready Player One”.
The movie tells the story of Wade Watts, a teenager growing up in a dystopian future with only one escape – the OASIS, a VR world where you can play as anyone you want to be.
When the games creator dies he leaves his billion dollar fortune in-game to whoever can solve a series of Easter eggs he’s hidden in the OASIS.
Watts decided to get in on the action but after five years he eventually finds himself facing off against corporate foes who will do anything to get the money – whether that’s in the game, or in the real world.
Few things are as irresistible as a horror movie with a good hook, and A Quiet Place seems to have a great one. A horror film like no other.
A family, living a silent, simple life in the woods. With the family only communicating in sign language and eschewing just about anything that would make a loud noise, it is fair to question why they live in utter silence..
The family live in fear of an unknown threat that follows – and attacks- any sound.

Avengers: Infinity War (April 27)
Out of every other movie on this list, this is widely thought to be the most anticipated movie of 2018. The Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy, and a whole host of other Marvel superheroes are teaming up to take down Thanos in the first part of Marvel Studios’ massive movie crossover. If the first trailer is anything to go by, it’s not one to be missed!
In the past decade since it launched the Marvel Universe with 2008’s Iron Man, this will be Marvel’s most ambitious project yet: a film that unites every single protagonist introduced in its 17-picture run. It may seem impossible to pull off without bewildering an audience, but directors Joe and Anthony Russo pulled off a similar trick in their previous jam-packed Marvel outing, Captain America: Civil War.
If you’ve not seen any of the other Marvel movies, don’t worry as it isn’t vital for this film, but if you want to watch them before this film comes out, there is an order to watch them all in to get the full story!
Did you know? Tom Holland was not allowed to read the script to the film, due to him accidentally revealing too many secrets for Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017). A brilliant superhero, but a rubbish secret keeper!

The pair investigate the kidnap of a baby panda by a network of illegal animal traders when they get a tip that the crime ring is planning to sell the panda at the prestigious Canini Invitational Dog Show.
Can Max and Frank save the day?
Ever wondered how Han met Chewie or how he first got into waistcoats? This ‘Star Wars’ spin-off starring Alden Ehrenreich and Emilia Clarke should provide the answers.
Fans of the episodic sci-fi serial are beyond excited to see Alden Ehrenreich’s embodiment of a young Han Solo in this stand-alone installment. The movie is plotted around the roguish smuggler’s pre-Rebellion adventures with Chewbacca and Lando Calrissian (Donald Glover).
The film sees Han Solo on an adventure into a criminal underworld, where he meets his beloved future co-pilot Chewbacca. He also encounters Lando Calrissian years before joining the Rebellion.
Has there been any better news than the greenlighting of Deadpool 2?
After being the 9th highest grossing movie in 2016, it’s not hard to see why Deadpool has been given a sequel. Fans were left wanting more of the hilarious dark anti-hero portrayed so well by Ryan Reynolds and 2018 is the year they’ll finally get it!
For many sequels, losing key creative talent might seem a blow. For Deadpool 2, it was an opportunity, and the movie grabbed it with both, blood-drenched hands. When original director Tim Miller left the project, in came John Wick co-director David Leitch, promising a slicky amped-up, even more stylish level of brutal action.
The movie sees Deadpool searching to regain his passion for life. Wade must battle ninjas, tight assed metal men, and babysit a group of stereotypical side characters as he journeys around the world to discover the importance of family, friendship, and creative outlets for his very open-minded sex life.

Raptors! Chris Pratt! A volcano threatening to destroy ALL the dinosaurs and somehow people actually going back to the island to save the toothy wonders! Jurassic World is back with its second installment.

Hereditary (June 9)
When a new horror film is being dubbed as the next Exorcist, you know it’s going to be terrifying…

The Incredibles was one of the best superhero movies of the early 2000s, and for good reason: Edna Mode! Voice acting by Craig T. Nelson and Holly Hunter! Plus “Honey, where’s my super-suit?”
The superhero family are finally back, 12 years after their cinematic debut. It’s fair to say that this sequel has been more than long-awaited. The movie takes place immediately after the first movie ended with the introduction of the villain, “The Underminer”.
Original writer-director Brad Bird returns for this sequel, which finds Elastigirl out saving the day while Mr. Incredible tries being a stay-at-home dad.
Oh, and the family still don’t know about Jack-Jack’s bewildering range of powers. They’d better get their fire extinguishers ready…
To quote the late Harry Potter character Sirius Black: “I did my waiting, 12 years of it!”
Oceans 8 is a reboot of Steven Soderbergh’s Oceans trilogy (which was itself a reboot, of course). Sandra Bullock leads the team as Danny Ocean’s sister Debbie, who gets out of prison and immediately begins planning a heist at the star-studded Met Ball.
The cast list alone is enough to leave you reeling with anticipation, with Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Rihanna, and Helena Bonham Carter all feature as part of the ensemble effort.
Here’s hoping the story and script can do justice to the importance of a film like this one; in the climate of today’s entertainment industry, a smart, show-stopping female-led blockbuster could be more valuable than ever.
Recognise this face? If you’re big on horror movies, you should do.

TEN YEARS after the original film, Mamma Mia is coming back with a bang for the sequel. Following on from the major success of the first movie, the musical classic created from ABBA songs is heading back to our screens.
With the first film being so well received – so well in fact that it was the fifth highest grossing movie of 2008 – it’s not hard to understand why there’s a sequel! Over a decade since the last movie, nearly all the original cast has returned, including Piers Brosnan, Colin Firth, and Meryl Streep!
The film follows Sophie, who is now pregnant as she comes to the realisation that she now needs to take risks as her mother Donna had done all those years ago. She learns about her mother’s past as we see flashbacks giving us an insight into the exciting past of Donna!

After featuring in Fast and Furious 8 in 2017, Jason Statham now faces a massive shark. Sorry, “a massive shark” is an understatement. He faces a megalodon, otherwise known as the biggest shark to have ever existed. As Statham quite rightly puts it, “who doesn’t want to watch a film about the biggest shark that’s ever existed?”
As shown by the 4 Jaws movies, everyone loves a film about a ridiculously huge, terrifying shark. Jason Statham and Ruby Rose feature in a movie about just that, except this isn’t just any shark.
The shark in question is a Megalodon or ‘The Meg’. A Megalodon is a prehistoric shark that is that lived approximately 23 to 2.6 million years ago and was the largest shark ever.
Five years ago, expert sea diver and Naval Captain Jonas Taylor (Statham) was forced to abort his mission and abandon half of his crew due to incredulous claims of a 70ft monster attacking their vessel, earning him a dishonourable discharge. Whether a shot at redemption or a suicide mission, Taylor is called up and must confront his fears as well as risking his own life.

While acting as a paid FBI informant, Wershe Jr helped the authorities prosecute crooked police officers as well as Willie Valson, the brother-in-law of former Detroit mayor Coleman Young.

Wershe Jr was ultimately arrested for drug-trafficking and sentenced to life in prison. After 30 years, he was given parole. “White Boy Rick” tells his story. (The real “White Boy Rick” Richard Wershe Jr is pictured above.)

Boy Erased (September 28th)
Jared Conley (Lucas Hedges) was 19 when he was outed to his family. Based on his 2016 memoir, Boy Erased tells the story of the hardships he faced while being outed in his small American town.
When finding out about his homosexuality, his parents order him to attend “conversion therapy”. If he doesn’t attend, he will be shunned by his family, friends, and church. It is within the program that Garrard comes into conflict with its head therapist. “Boy Erased” is the true story of one young man’s struggle to find himself while being forced to question every aspect of his identity.
Joel Edgerton directs the coming out — and coming-of-age — drama: Jared spars with the camp’s head therapist, played by Edgerton himself, and battles his conservative Baptist parents, played by Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe.
Smallfoot (October 5)
An animated adventure for all ages, with original music and an all-star cast, “Smallfoot” turns the Bigfoot legend upside down when a bright young Yeti finds something he thought didn’t exist – a human!
News of this “smallfoot” brings him fame and a chance with the girl of his dreams. It also throws the simple Yeti community into an uproar over what else might be out there in the big world beyond their snowy village.
The cast in this rollicking story about friendship, courage and the joy of discovery is almost as good as the discovery of a “Smallfoot” with Channing Tatum, James Corden, Danny DeVito and Lebron James all featuring as voice actors!
A Star Is Born (October 5)
Jackson Maine (Bradley Cooper) is self-destructive fading country music star on the brink of decline. After discovering a talented unknown named Ally (Stefani Germanotta aka Lady Gaga), the two enjoy a series of coincidental meetings.
After multiple accidental meetings, the pair eventually begins dating. Believing in her talent, Jackson gives her a helping hand and brings Ally into the spotlight, firing her to stardom.
However, as Ally’s career quickly eclipses his own, Jackson finds it more and more difficult to handle his fading glory. He starts to realize that his best days may be behind him.
With musical performances by Cooper and Gaga shot at Coachella and the U.K.’s Glastonbury Festival last year, expect the movie to hew closely in style and substance to 1976’s Barbra Streisand–Kris Kristofferson incarnation.
Following the character’s role in 2007s Spider-Man 3, it’s Tom Hardy’s turn to inhabit the role and hope to reignite the fear in Venom. Eddie Brock finds himself enveloped by a symbiotic alien that imbues its host with incredible powers such as super strength, spontaneous mutation and the ability to develop new powers.
Venom is an outlier in the world of comic book movies. With the Marvel universe growing at an insane rate, it’s rather unfortunate that Venom isn’t included – as much as Sony would like him to be (Sony own the rights to Venom, rather than Marvel). However, the idea of a solo film starring a character who is predominantly known as a villain will most likely draw in large audiences.
This movie follows the plot of both “The Lethal Protector” comic book series that spanned from February to July in ’93, and ’95s “The Planet of the Symbiotes” storylines!
A lot of the film is currently under wraps, but, if successful, it could kickstart a Sony-led cinematic universe with the three characters not owned by Marvel. If nothing else, it’s packing a killer cast: Hardy is joined by Rogue One’s Riz Ahmed, the Han Solo movie’s Woody Harrelson, and Oscar nominee Michelle Williams. While we see next to nothing of Venom himself in the trailer for this movie, the film itself still looks set to be a masterpiece and Tom Hardy looks like he’ll be a frighteningly good Eddie Brock!
Forty years on from the original Halloween, Jamie Lee Curtis is returning as franchise icon Laurie Strode as well as Danny McBride is helping to write the script and John Carpenter to produce and score.
Even the original man behind the mask, Nick Castle, is back to reprise his role as knife enthusiast turned serial killer Michael Myers. All things considered, we may have a revived slasher horror masterpiece on our hands this October.
The 2018 movie sees Laurie Strode coming to her final confrontation with Michael Myers, the masked figure who has haunted her since she narrowly escaped his killing spree on Halloween night four decades ago.
Let’s once again delve into the magical world with the second installment of the Fantastic Beasts franchise, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.

The film is going to be a direct adaptation of the comic book series “The Dark Phoenix Saga” in which the X-Men must face the full power of the Phoenix after a mission to space goes wrong.
Dark Phoenix is a return to one of X-Men’s best storylines. The movie is set in the ‘90s after the X-Men have sprung to global fame and sees the group go on a trip to space.
While in space, the team experience a solar flare and Jean Grey begins to develop incredible powers.
The Solar Flare eventually corrupts Jean Grey and leads to the uprising of what is known as the Phoenix Force.
This movie will give Sophie Turner the chance to show us the same acting mettle that we’ve already seen in Game of Thrones.
The first Creed movie was born from the ashes of the Rocky franchise and continued the legacy on excellently. The sequel looks to be just as good. Sylvester Stallone has hinted that this time Donnie will go up against the son of Ivan Drago. Drago was the character that killed Apollo in Rocky IV.
2015’s Creed excelled in its ability to intertwine the origin story of wrestling newcomer Adonis Johnson with the legacy of a cinematic icon, so of course, it’s exciting to see what this next chapter holds for both Adonis and Rocky.
After the first film, Adonis Creed becomes the newly crowned light-heavyweight champion. Adonis is once again under the tutelage of Rocky Balboa for what may be the hardest fight in his career. Vitor Drago, the son of Ivan Drago. Creeds father was killed by Ivan.
Mary, Queen of Scots explores the turbulent life of the charismatic Mary Stuart. Queen of France at 16 and widowed at 18, Mary (Saoirse Ronan) defies pressure to remarry. Instead, she returns to her native Scotland to reclaim her rightful throne.
However, Scotland and England fall under the rule of the compelling Elizabeth I (Margot Robbie). Each young Queen beholds her “sister” in fear and fascination. Rivals in power and in love, and female regents in a masculine world, the two must decide how to play the game of marriage versus independence.
Determined to rule as much more than a figurehead, Mary asserts her claim to the English throne, threatening Elizabeth’s sovereignty. Betrayal, rebellion, and conspiracies within each court imperil both thrones – and change the course of history.
Holmes and Watson (December 7)
Unfortunately, there isn’t a Step Brothers 2 on the way (yet)…
However, there is a new film coming from the guys that featured in it. Will Ferrell and John C Reilly are once again teaming up in the upcoming American action-mystery comedy film: Holmes and Watson.
The movie will represent the third collaboration between Ferrell and Reilly following 2006’s “Talladega Nights” and 2008’s “Step Brothers.”
The film is a humorous take on Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic mysteries featuring Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson. With a cast featuring Will Ferrell, John C Reilly, Rob Brydon and Hugh Laurie, this is certain to be one of the funniest movies of 2018!
If you’re a fan of superhero movies whether animated or live action, 2018 is shaping up to be quite a year for you!
This animated movie introduces Brooklyn teen Miles Morales, alongside the limitless possibilities of the Spider-Verse, where more than one can wear the mask. Other than this, not much is known about the film.
Bitten by a slightly different genetically engineered spider than the one that granted Peter Parker’s powers, Miles Morales possesses abilities similar to the original Spider-Man’s, including enhanced strength and agility, the ability to adhere to walls and ceilings with his hands and feet, and a “spider sense” that warns him of danger with a buzzing sensation in his head.
Though his strength and agility are similar to those of the original Spider-Man, his spider-sense is not as strong, as it only warns him of immediate danger.
If that seems intimidatingly confusing, take comfort in the fact that it’s written by The Lego Movie scribes Phil Lord and Chris Miller alongside Gravity Falls creator Alex Hirsch. Plus, it has the voice of Mahershala Ali and that, alone, is likely to be worth the price of admission.
Mary Poppins Returns (December 21)
The always wonderful Emily Blunt replaces Julie Andrews as the magical English supernanny for this musical sequel. Blunt will appear alongside Lin-Manuel Miranda, Meryl Streep, Colin Firth, and even Dick Van Dyke to name a few with the latter returning for an undisclosed cameo role.
In Depression-era London, a now-grown Jane and Michael Banks, along with Michael’s three children, are visited by the enigmatic Mary Poppins following a personal loss.
Through her unique magical skills, and with the aid of her friend Jack, she helps the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives.
Considering Disney’s strong recent history with modern reboots from its back catalogue, from The Jungle Book to Beauty and the Beast, this could well turn out to be the Mary Poppins sequel we never knew we needed.
If you’re a music buff, you’ll recognise the man above as one of the most iconic lead singers of all time: Freddie Mercury.
Queen vocalist Freddie Mercury, one of the most iconic musicians of the modern era, will be the focal point of the upcoming band biopic Bohemian Rhapsody.
Mr. Robot star Rami Malek will portray the man regarded by many as the greatest multifaceted singer, songwriter, and producer of all time, with director Dexter Fletcher replacing original director Bryan Singer behind the camera.
In December of this year, we’re getting a chronicle film about the band Queen in the years running up to their legendary 1985 performance at Live Aid.
Bohemian Rhapsody will chronicle the period between the band’s formation in the 1970s and Mercury’s death in 1991, with Queen band members Brian May and Roger Taylor serving as producers on the film.
The China Hustle (TBC)
From the producers of Enron: The smartest guys in the room comes a Wall Street heist story about a still-unfolding financial crime so big, it has the power to affect all of our wallets.
Capitalism. The hardworking can benefit handsomely, but so can the criminals. The China Hustle blows the lid off of a multibillion-dollar heist built on complex financial instruments and a whole lot of smoke and mirrors.
An unsettling and eye-opening Wall Street horror story about Chinese companies, the American stock market, and the opportunistic greed behind the biggest heist you’ve never heard of.
